If you’re asking when is sports personality of the year 2025 time, the BBC ceremony was scheduled for Thursday, December 18, 2025, with the broadcast starting at 7 p.m. GMT. It was shown on BBC One and streamed on BBC iPlayer.
Here are the UK start time, where the programme aired, and what to know if you’re checking a listing or looking for the show after its broadcast. The key detail: 7 p.m. was the programme’s scheduled start, not necessarily the moment the main award was announced.
When is sports personality of the year 2025 time in the UK?
The 2025 BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony was scheduled for Thursday, December 18, at 7 p.m. GMT. The programme was due to air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
December in the UK falls within Greenwich Mean Time, so 7 p.m. GMT is the local UK time. If you were watching from another country, you would need to convert the start time to your own time zone.
The date and time refer to the televised ceremony. They do not mean every award was presented at exactly 7 p.m.; the show begins with opening coverage and presents awards throughout the broadcast.
Where was the 2025 ceremony shown?
The BBC planned to carry the event on its main television channel and streaming service. Which option suited you depended on whether you wanted to watch on a television or stream online.
| Option | How to watch | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| BBC One | Watch the scheduled television broadcast from 7 p.m. GMT. | Viewers watching live on a TV. |
| BBC iPlayer | Stream the programme through the BBC’s online service. | Viewers watching on a compatible device or online. |
Streaming access and catch-up availability can depend on your location, account requirements, and the BBC’s current programme listing. If you’re trying to find the show after its live broadcast, search BBC iPlayer for the full programme rather than assuming it remains available indefinitely.
What time should you tune in?
For the live programme, the practical answer was to be ready shortly before 7 p.m. GMT. That gives you time to open the stream or find the channel without missing the opening portion.
Use these simple steps if you are checking a broadcast listing:
- Confirm the date. The ceremony was scheduled for Thursday, December 18, 2025.
- Check the time zone. The advertised 7 p.m. time was GMT, the UK’s standard time in December.
- Choose the platform. Look for BBC One on television or the programme listing on BBC iPlayer.
- Check the listing close to broadcast. A broadcaster’s schedule is the best place to confirm any last-minute change.
One point viewers can easily miss is the difference between the ceremony’s broadcast start and the announcement of the main Sports Personality award. The show includes several awards and presentation segments, so the headline winner is not necessarily named as soon as the programme begins.
Is the 2025 ceremony live or available to watch later?
The event was scheduled as a televised ceremony on BBC One, with a stream on BBC iPlayer. If you wanted to watch live, the listed 7 p.m. start was the time to use.
If you missed the live broadcast, check the BBC’s programme page or iPlayer listing for any on-demand version. Availability can change, and a past programme may no longer be listed. Search the full programme name and the year to avoid confusing it with another edition.
Clips and winner announcements may also appear separately from the full ceremony. A short highlight is useful if you only want the result, but it is not the same as watching the complete broadcast.
What is BBC Sports Personality of the Year?
BBC Sports Personality of the Year is an annual sports awards programme. Its best-known honor recognizes a sportsperson for their achievements during the year, with the winner selected through a public vote.
The broadcast also features other awards and recognition. That is why the programme lasts longer than a single winner announcement and why the 7 p.m. start should be treated as the beginning of the show, rather than a precise time for the main result.
How to find the correct result or replay
Search using the full programme name and “2025” when looking for the winner or a replay. This helps separate the 2025 ceremony from earlier editions and from articles that only discuss predictions or the shortlist.
For the most reliable result, use a BBC programme or results page rather than an old preview. Pre-event articles may state when the ceremony is due to happen, while a post-event report confirms what happened and who won.
If you are checking a recording, look at its description before pressing play. A highlights package, a results recap, and the full ceremony can have similar titles but offer different coverage.
The 2025 Sports Personality of the Year broadcast was scheduled for 7 p.m. GMT on Thursday, December 18, on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. The start time applies to the programme as a whole, not necessarily to the announcement of its main award.
If you want to watch the ceremony now, search BBC iPlayer for the full 2025 programme and check whether it is still available. For future editions, confirm the date and time in the BBC’s current schedule before making plans.
