Yes, you can stream NFL games that air on CBS, mainly through Paramount+ or a live TV service that carries your local CBS station. The game you can watch depends on your location and that week’s broadcast schedule.
This guide explains what CBS Sports streams, how to pick a viewing option, and why a CBS subscription does not include every NFL game. It also covers practical checks to make before kickoff.
Will CBS Sports stream NFL games?
Yes, but CBS Sports does not stream every NFL game. CBS broadcasts a selection of regular-season games, playoff games, and other NFL coverage. Eligible live CBS broadcasts are available through Paramount+ and certain TV-provider streaming services.
The key detail is that CBS game access usually follows your local CBS broadcast. That means your location and the weekly schedule determine which game appears. A subscription to a streaming service that carries CBS is not a pass to every Sunday matchup.
Also, CBS Sports and CBS are not interchangeable names for streaming access. CBS Sports’ news and highlights are separate from the live CBS network feed. For a live game, check Paramount+ or a provider that carries your local CBS station.
Where can you watch a live NFL game on CBS?
Choose the option that fits your setup and the game you want. Each service has different channel access, device support, and location rules.
| Option | What it can show | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Paramount+ | Live CBS programming, including eligible NFL games available in your area | Watching CBS without a traditional cable package |
| Live TV streaming service | Your local CBS station, if the service carries it in your market | Viewers who also want other live channels |
| TV antenna | Over-the-air CBS broadcasts, if your home can receive the local station | Watching local games without streaming |
| CBS Sports app or website | Access may depend on the event, location, and TV-provider sign-in | Checking whether a specific game is offered through your provider |
Availability can vary by ZIP code, device, and current rights. Before paying for a service, confirm that it carries your local CBS station or offers the live CBS feed in your area.
How to stream a CBS NFL game
Use these steps to avoid choosing a service that cannot show the game you want.
- Find the game’s network. Check the NFL schedule or your team’s official schedule to see whether CBS is carrying the matchup. Games may air on other networks or platforms.
- Check your local listing. Confirm that the game is scheduled for your local CBS station. Regional broadcasts can differ, even when games start at the same time.
- Choose a viewing option. Check Paramount+ first if you only need CBS. If you want several live channels, compare live TV services and verify CBS is included in your area.
- Test your device and connection. Sign in and open the service before kickoff. This gives you time to fix an app update, password, or device issue.
- Confirm the live feed. Make sure the app is showing the local CBS broadcast, not a highlights channel or a game preview.
For an antenna, scan for local channels before game day and test reception from the room where you plan to watch. A station may come in clearly near a window but not in another part of the home.
Does Paramount+ include live NFL games on CBS?
Paramount+ is a common way to stream live NFL on CBS without a cable subscription. Its live CBS feed can carry games available to viewers in the relevant market. Check the service’s current plan details and local availability before subscribing, since features and rights can change.
Streaming access is tied to the CBS broadcast, not to every game that CBS has aired in another region. If a matchup is assigned to a different network or is not shown in your area, Paramount+ may not provide it as a live CBS game.
Keep the game schedule handy. It helps you distinguish a local CBS broadcast from a nationally televised game that may be carried elsewhere.
Can you watch every NFL game through CBS Sports?
No. CBS has rights to selected NFL games, not the entire league schedule. Other games may air on FOX, NBC, ESPN, ABC, Amazon Prime Video, or NFL Network, depending on the matchup and week.
Out-of-market Sunday afternoon games are another common source of confusion. A CBS stream generally follows the local CBS game selection; it is not a substitute for a package designed to carry games outside your local market. NFL Sunday Ticket is one option for many out-of-market Sunday afternoon games, subject to its terms and exclusions.
Nationally televised games may also have separate viewing arrangements. Check the listing for the specific matchup rather than assuming that a CBS subscription covers it.
Why might a CBS game not appear in your stream?
A missing game does not always mean the service is broken. Common reasons include:
- The game is not on CBS. Check the network listed for that matchup.
- Your location receives a different game. CBS programming can follow local-market assignments.
- Your service does not carry local CBS. Channel availability differs among providers and regions.
- Your account or app needs attention. Sign-in issues, outdated apps, and device settings can prevent playback.
- A rights restriction applies. A service may not offer the game in every location or on every device.
One useful tip: check the local station listing and the streaming service’s channel lineup before troubleshooting your TV. This can quickly show whether the issue is a broadcast selection or a technical problem.
Is CBS Sports free for NFL games?
Some CBS NFL broadcasts may be available free over the air with an antenna, if you can receive your local CBS station. Streaming through Paramount+ or a live TV service generally requires an eligible subscription. The CBS Sports app may require a TV-provider login for certain live content, and it does not guarantee access to every game.
Do not assume that free CBS Sports clips or studio coverage mean a live game is free to stream. Highlights, analysis, and the live network broadcast are different types of content.
Yes, will cbs sports stream nfl games? It can stream eligible games carried on CBS, usually through Paramount+ or a service with your local CBS station. It does not provide every NFL matchup, and the local schedule matters.
Before kickoff, check the game’s network and confirm that your chosen service carries the correct live feed in your area. If you only need CBS, compare Paramount+ with an antenna; if you want games on other networks too, review a broader live TV option.
