The TIME100 Sports Gala took place on July 23, 2024, at The Shed in New York City. It was an evening event, but a single confirmed public start time is not consistently listed in event information.
Here’s how to distinguish that sports event from TIME’s annual TIME100 Gala, what the date and location tell you, and how to check for any future edition without relying on an outdated listing.
When is the time 100 sports gala?
The documented TIME100 Sports Gala was held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at The Shed in New York City. The event celebrated people recognized in TIME’s TIME100 list of influential figures in sports.
Because the venue is in New York, any local schedule is in Eastern Time. The event was described as taking place in the evening, but don’t assume a specific red-carpet arrival time or program start unless it appears on an official event listing or invitation.
This date refers to the 2024 sports celebration. It does not establish a recurring date for future sports galas. If you’re looking for an upcoming event, check current announcements from TIME rather than treating July 23 as an annual date.
Is the TIME100 Sports Gala the same as the TIME100 Gala?
No. The names are similar, but the events have different scopes. The TIME100 Sports Gala was tied specifically to TIME’s recognition of influential people in sports. The better-known TIME100 Gala celebrates honorees from the broader annual TIME100 list.
The regular TIME100 Gala is associated with the annual list, but that does not mean the sports event happens on the same day or follows the same schedule. Confirm the event name before using a date, ticket detail, or broadcast notice.
| Event | What it celebrates | Date guidance | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| TIME100 Sports Gala | People recognized for influence in sports | The documented event was July 23, 2024; check for a new official announcement | Readers following TIME’s sports honorees |
| TIME100 Gala | Honorees from the broader TIME100 list | Scheduled separately as part of the annual TIME100 events | Readers looking for the general TIME100 celebration |
| TIME100 Summit | Discussion and programming connected to TIME100 themes | Check the specific edition’s agenda; it may not share the gala’s hours | People seeking panels or speaker sessions |
These names can appear together in coverage, which causes confusion. Look for the word “Sports” and the event year in the headline or listing before deciding you have the right schedule.
What time did the event start?
The date and venue are clearer than a universal public start time. Gala invitations and schedules can give different times for guest arrivals, the red carpet, and the main program. A time shown for one part of the evening should not automatically be treated as the start of the entire event.
If you find a listing that gives a clock time, check what that time describes. It may refer to doors opening, arrivals, a reception, or the program itself. If you’re comparing listings, give priority to an official TIME announcement or an event-specific invitation.
For anyone planning around the 2024 event, the useful details are the date, the New York venue, and the evening timing. A precise start time should be treated as unconfirmed unless it is supported by a reliable event schedule.
How to check whether another sports gala is scheduled
A past event page or a story about the 2024 honorees can remain online after the event. That does not mean the same gala is scheduled again. Use these checks to separate an old announcement from a current one:
- Check the year. Make sure the listing refers to the edition you want, not the July 2024 event.
- Look for a current announcement. Search TIME’s official site and verified social accounts for an event notice, not just an older article.
- Confirm the event name. Check that the listing specifically says TIME100 Sports Gala, rather than TIME100 Gala or TIME100 Summit.
- Read the schedule details. Verify the date, venue, time zone, and whether the listed time is for arrivals or the main program.
- Check closer to the event. Venue instructions and program times can be updated, so recheck the official notice before making plans.
This process matters most if you’re traveling or arranging a viewing. Search snippets and reposted invitations may omit the year or show only one portion of the schedule.
Can you watch the TIME100 Sports Gala?
Viewing access depends on the specific event and any coverage TIME makes available. A gala may have red-carpet photos, interviews, highlights, or selected video without a full live broadcast. Don’t assume that an event is streaming live just because it has a public announcement.
For a future edition, look for explicit viewing instructions in the current event announcement. Check whether the information names a live stream, a broadcast partner, or post-event coverage. If it only promises photos or highlights, that is not the same as a full live telecast.
For the 2024 event, use archived TIME coverage to find reports and images from the evening. Archived content can help you follow the event, but it cannot confirm a future date or current viewing option.
Why the TIME100 Sports date can be easy to misread
The phrase “TIME100” is used for several kinds of content and events. A list announcement, summit session, red-carpet arrival, and gala program may each have a separate date or time. A search result that mentions one of these does not necessarily answer when the sports gala itself occurred.
Another common mix-up is assuming that a date from a previous edition repeats every year. The 2024 date is a historical fact, not a standing calendar appointment. Wait for a new, dated announcement before booking travel or expecting a live broadcast.
Also pay attention to time zones. A schedule set in New York uses Eastern Time, while an online event listing may display times in your device’s local zone. If a precise time is published, check the stated zone before converting it.
The TIME100 Sports Gala was held on July 23, 2024, at The Shed in New York City. It was an evening event, but confirm any exact start time against an official schedule.
If you’re looking for a future edition, check TIME’s latest event announcement and verify the year, event name, time zone, and viewing details before making plans.
